How to clean common flooring types

It’s easy to spill something on your flooring, but it can be difficult to keep track of how to clean different types of floors. No matter what type of flooring you have, regular maintenance and cleaning can extend their lifespan and make them look like new for much longer. Check out this simple guide on how to clean different types of floors.

Ceramic Tile
First, be sure to sweep and/or vacuum to remove any debris from your ceramic tile. All you’ll need is some warm water, but be sure you don’t use a sponge mop. Instead, use a rag or a microfiber mop. When using a rag use a circular motion, and if you need to clean dirty grout use a brush.

Hardwood
It may sound odd to clean your flooring with tea, but boiling water and two tea bags are an effective way to clean hardwood. After leaving the teabags in the boiling water for a few minutes, pour it into a bucket and dampen a soft cloth to wash the floor.

Carpet
The first step in cleaning a carpet is using a vacuum regularly. If necessary, use an extraction cleaner that can be purchased or rented. You can also hire a professional cleaning service to get the job done right and make your carpets look great.

Vinyl
Mop up spills immediately so they don’t cause damage to your vinyl flooring. Use a neutral floor cleaner to wash the floors. If you find that moping your vinyl leaves behind streaks or films, try mopping again with a solution of water and white vinegar.
